The Department of Periodontology & Implantology at Buddha Institute of Dental Sciences & Hospital (BIDSH), Patna, celebrated National Periodontist Day on 23rd February 2026 in collaboration with the Indian Society of Periodontology and Implantology (ISPI). The event was held under the inspiring theme "Healthy Gums, Healthy Body" and was a resounding success, bringing together faculty members, postgraduate and undergraduate students, hygienists, and a large number of patients.
The day was marked by a series of patient-centred activities, academic competitions, and celebratory moments that highlighted the significance of periodontal health in overall well-being.
A primary focus of the day was patient education and outreach. Complimentary toothpaste samples — provided graciously by ISPI — were distributed to 100 patients as part of an oral hygiene promotion drive. Each patient received personalised attention from faculty members, students, and dental hygienists, who guided them on correct brushing techniques, the importance of flossing, and other essential oral hygiene measures.
To make the educational experience more engaging and impactful, a variety of innovative tools were employed — including informative videos, carefully curated PowerPoint presentations, and customised short lectures tailored to the specific needs and comprehension levels of individual patients. This multimodal approach ensured that the message of periodontal health was conveyed effectively across diverse patient groups.
A spirited and intellectually stimulating word game competition titled "Perio Hunt" was organised for both undergraduate and postgraduate students of the Department. The competition was held in two separate categories — one for undergraduates and one for postgraduates — ensuring a level playing field and encouraging healthy academic camaraderie.
The activity was met with great enthusiasm; students found it both challenging and thoroughly enjoyable. "Perio Hunt" served not only as a fun-filled engagement but also as a creative reinforcement of Periodontology terminology and concepts.
To add a festive touch to the occasion, a specially designed cake — graciously provided by Group Pharmaceuticals — was arranged for the celebration. The cake bore the theme of National Periodontist Day and was cut by the faculty members in the presence of students and staff.
This gesture was warmly received and marked the beginning of a heartfelt celebration. Faculty members hosted a small party for the students, creating a joyful and collegial atmosphere that strengthened the bonds within the department.
The National Periodontist Day celebration at BIDSH, Patna, was a comprehensive and well-orchestrated event that successfully combined patient education, academic engagement, and community celebration. The collaborative spirit of the faculty, students, and support staff ensured the smooth execution of all activities.
The Department reaffirmed its commitment to advancing periodontal awareness and improving public oral health. The event stands as a testament to the department's unwavering dedication to its core motto
